Broncos Fall To #11 UC Colorado Springs, 1-0

POMONA -- The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team outshot 11th-ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs, 14-13, but would suffer a narrow 1-0 loss on a warm Friday afternoon at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.

The Broncos fall to 1-2-0 while the Mountain Lions remain perfect on the season at 3-0-0.

"I thought we started the game well, the team came out with the energy and intensity we asked them to come out with against a Top 15 team in the country," said head coach Jay Mason.  "We put some pressure on (UCCS), we just didn't execute our chances early in the game.  If you let good teams hang around and find a rhythm, they will find chances and they will put those chances away, that's why they win games."

After a scoreless first half that saw the Broncos get off to a fast start, attempting six of the first seven shots of the contest, it was the visiting Mountain Lions to find the back of the net first at 56:08 when Kaitlin Hinkle got one past CPP goalkeeper Sydney Williams.  It would hold up to be the only score of the match as UCCS netminder Mollee Swift secured the shutout.

Taylor Scott was credited with a team-high four shots while Shayna Larson had three shots, all of which were on goal.

"We got to learn from it, get a little more mentally tough," added Mason. "We got some experience for some of our younger players, so hopefully that will serve us well heading into conference."

Cal Poly Pomona will return to action on Sunday at 11:00 am, hosting Metro State at Kellogg Stadium.
