Scott Lifts Broncos With Golden Goal In OT

POMONA -- With a scoreless tie and six seconds on the clock before the end of overtime, Allyssa Larkin passed over to Taylor Scott in front of the goal, who then buried her shot in the back of the next just before time expired, lifting the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 victory on Sunday at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.

"This win feels fantastic," head coach Jay Mason said. "Going back to Friday, the girls created chances that we talked about the last couple of days that we needed to do a little better with. We had some good energy today, and I kept telling them that we need to have the intent and the courage to try and make the difference in that part of the field. We talked before the overtime period started that we need to get numbers in the box, and that the balls we got in the box were quality, and they were able to do that."

Larkin took the ball down the right side of the box with 15 seconds left on the clock in the first overtime, sent in a perfect cross into the box where Scott one-touched it in the air and into the back of the net to kickoff a Broncos celebration.

In the end, CPP held a 15-9 advantage in shots, including 6-4 on goal.  Broncos goalkeeper Clarissa Sanchez recorded the shutout in between the posts, making four saves on the day.

"MSU Denver is a tough team, very organized, big, physical team, and they were a good challenge for us," Mason added. "We were missing a number of players that play a lot of minutes for us, so we had kids step up right away and take on the challenge, so I'm extremely proud of the team and their effort and the commitment as a group to come together to get this win."

Cal Poly Pomona will return to action Thursday in San Diego, taking on Northwest Nazarene in a neutral-site contest at the PLNU Soccer Field.  Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm.
