Ricketson Triples Up Against Warriors

TURLOCK – Jackie Ricketson posted her first career triple-double — only one of 10 NCAA Division II women's basketball players to complete the feat this year — to lead Cal Poly Pomona to a 69-65 victory over Stanislaus State Saturday night.

The Broncos improve to 15-8 overall and 11-6 in the CCAA, while the Warriors drop to 12-11, 10-8 in conference.

Ricketson finished the night with 10 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds to help the Broncos boast a 40.4 field goal percentage and out-rebound the Warriors 40-to-32.

Kasey Smit led CPP with 26 points (9-of-13) and was one rebound shy of a double-double, while Dominique Dotson chipped in 19 points.

Stanislaus State took an early five-point lead in the first, 9-4, but CPP responded with a 6-0 run to jump in front 10-9. Ricketson got the scoring going with a quick layup off a deadball and assisted Leilia Orji to cap the run.

Halfway through the second, the Broncos created some separation and grabbed a double-digit lead, 30-19. Dotson drained a three-pointer from the corner to give CPP the cushion.

The Warriors cut the margin to six, but Smit drove to the basket just before time expired to put the Broncos up 38-30 at halftime.

CPP looked to distance itself in the third once again and built up a 12-point cushion off a Smit layup. The Warriors battled back, however, and pulled within three with three and a half minutes left in the quarter but CPP built back its upper hand heading into the final frame.

Holding a 58-47 lead to start the fourth, the Broncos felt some pressure as the Warriors started the fourth with a 7-0 run.

With just under two minutes left on the clock, STAN took the lead, 65-63, but the Broncos were determined to stay in it. Smit scored six-straight points to seal the game 69-65 for CPP.

The Broncos return home to host Chico State on Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Kellogg Arena.
