LOS ANGELES – In its fourth matchup with No. 6-ranked Cal State Los Angeles on the year, No. 16-ranked Cal Poly Pomona gave everything it had but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles grabbed a 1-0 victory over the Broncos.
CPP ends the year at 14-5-4 on the year, while CSULA improves to 17-2-2 and advances to the NCAA Division II Semifinals.
Neither team could break through in the first half, with each team posting three chances in the first 45 minutes.
Paul Henschke had a dangerous chance in the 57
th minute, getting in behind the Eagle defense for a one-vs-one opportunity with the Eagle goalkeeper. Henschke put the shot on frame, but the goalkeeper made the point-blank save to keep the Broncos off the board.
It was Cal State L.A. that would end the scoring drought in the 67
th minute to put pressure on the Broncos to find an equalizer to keep their season alive.
CPP outshot CSULA 4-to-2 in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles held onto the 1-0 victory.
