No. 24 Broncos Cruise to Another Volleyball Sweep

POMONA – For the second straight match, the 24th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team posted a hitting percentage above. 460, as the Broncos cruised to their 11th win in as many outings this season with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-22 sweep of visiting Cal State East Bay on Saturday afternoon at Kellogg Arena.

The Broncos assure themselves to remain in at least a tie for first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings at the end of the weekend after improving to 4-0 in conference action. They are now 11-0 overall for the second time in school history, while Cal State East Bay fell to 5-7 overall.

Saturday marked the second consecutive match in which the Broncos had a hitting percentage of .450 or better, as Cal Poly Pomona hit .488 in Friday night's win over Cal State San Marcos. The Broncos finished at a .461 clip with 45 kills in three sets against CSU East Bay on Saturday.

Sophomore Daisy Duke led the way offensively in Saturday's win, totaling 14 kills in just 23 attempts with three errors (.478). Three of her Bronco teammates – sophomore Jazmyn Wheeler (12 kills, .625), senior Ruki Kennedy (nine kills, .500), and sophomore Jazminn Parrish (six kills, .400) – combined for 27 kills between them to complement Duke's effort. Parrish added 10 digs to lead all players.

Cal State East Bay, which finished with a .282 team hitting percentage, was led by the 10 kills and .476 hitting percentage of Alexandria Gloria. Breyan Ashley added nine kills, and Kara Green finished with six kills for the Pioneers.

Cal Poly Pomona, who played for the second straight week as a nationally-ranked team in the Division II polls, will return to the road next weekend when it visits Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday (Oct. 1) and Saturday (Oct. 2), respectively. The Broncos then open a three-match home stand on Oct. 8 against San Francisco State.
