POMONA – Daisy Duke recorded 20 kills and hit .436, but the 17th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team suffered a three-set sweep (26-28, 23-25, 27-29) to 24th-ranked Cal State LA in the battle of the top two CCAA teams Friday evening at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos fall to 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles rise to 17-4 (12-1 CCAA) having won their seventh straight match, and now holds a two-game lead in the standings with five regular season contests to go.
It took extra points in the first and third sets for CSULA to knock off CPP on its home floor, winning by scores of 28-26 and 29-27, respectively, in the 1-hour, 37-minute slugfest. Both teams fought through 26 tie scores and 14 lead changes in the three sets combined. By comparison, when the two squads faced each other in a five-set match in Los Angeles back on Sept. 24, the Broncos and Golden Eagles saw 35 ties and the same amount of lead changes (14).
Duke led all players with 20 kills, adding 11 digs, two service aces and four blocks (one solo).
Samantha Campion turned in nine kills with a team-high 16 digs, and
Caitie Mueller passed out 43 assists to go along with nine digs on the defensive side.
Avery Percival added 14 digs as the libero.
For Cal State LA, Iane Henke scored a team-best 12 kills while Ashley Dittmann and Emily Elliott added 11 apiece. Dittman also led the defensive effort for CSULA, tallying a match-high 17 digs.
Cal Poly Pomona will look to rebound Saturday when it hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills at Kellogg Arena. First serve is set for 4:00 pm.

- As a program, CPP is now 768-533 all-time, including 294-160 in home matches and 378-298 in conference play since the program's inception in 1980.
- CPP is now 317-205 in three-set matches all-time.
