Broncos Tie CSULA to Gain CCAA Playoff Berth

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos hosted the Cal State LA Golden Eagles in Kellogg Stadium. The Broncos forced the 0-0 tie, earning them the sixth seed in the CCAA Championship Tournament.
 
Goalkeeper Audrey Brown collected three saves on the game. Leading the Broncos in shots was forward Julia Lucero who took five shots on the game. Forward Allyssa Larkin collected three shots of her own and Liberty Ortiz had one shot on the game.
 
With the 0-0 tie against the Golden Eagles, the Broncos earned the sixth seed and return to the CCAA Championship Tournament where they will rematch No. 3 Cal State LA in Los Angeles at 11:30am on Sunday.
 
"I'm extremely proud of our team's effort and commitment today against CSULA," said coach Jay Mason. "This group has faced a lot of adversity this season and today personified the culture and drive each player in this program has. We had a number of student-athletes out today and the rest of the team stepped up and didn't miss a beat. We are excited to represent CPP in the CCAA tournament and look forward to another great match on Sunday."
 
Bronco Bits: Head coach Jay Mason moves to 49-40-19 in his seventh year (sixth season) at Cal Poly Pomona and 30-23-17 against CCAA opponents … The Broncos are now 183-141-53 in conference matches … CPP is now 24-12-9 against Cal State LA … The Broncos last faced CSULA in the CCAA Tournament in 2019 where the topped CSULA, 3-1 in Kellogg Stadium.
