Broncos Down the Cougars, 1-0

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos took on the Cal State San Marcos Cougars in Kellogg Stadium. The Broncos collected another shutout as they toppled the Cougars, 1-0.

In the 17th minute, midfielder Marisa Salazar scored CPP's only goal of the game off an assist by forward Alyssa Larkin. The goal would be the only one of the match, as goalkeeper Audrey Brown collected four saves for the Broncos win, 1-0.

Leading in shots for CPP was Salazar who took three shots and had two shots on goal. The Broncos collected eight shots on the game against CSUSM's 10 shots.

With this win, CPP now has a CCAA record of 4-1-1 and an overall record of 5-5-2.

"I am really happy with the teams grit and fight against one of the top teams in the CCAA," said coach Jay Mason. "Credit to CSUSM, they were able to take us out of our rhythm forcing us to play a game that we are accustomed to playing. I am proud of our group's perseverance in finding a way to win today."

Coach Jay Mason continued, "Thrilled for Marisa as her strike was the deciding moment in a game filled with chances on both ends of the field. We need to recover and work through some things this week in preparation for two tough opponents this weekend."

CPP's next match is Friday, October 14th against San Francisco State in Kellogg Stadium with kickoff set for 4:30 pm.

Bronco Bits: Head coach Jay Mason moves to 48-37-18 in his seventh year (sixth season) at Cal Poly Pomona and 29-20-16 against CCAA opponents … The Broncos are now 182-138-52 in conference matches … CPP is now 4-2-3 against Cal State San Marcos.
