SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Ally Bates poured in 19 points, leading the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team to a convincing 72-51 victory over Point Loma on Saturday afternoon at the CCAA/PacWest Challenge hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
The Broncos open the season 2-0 while the Sea Lions fall to 0-2.
The contest was never in doubt as CPP led for all but two minutes and led by as much as 24 points late in the fourth quarter before settling for the 21-point win.
While Bates led all players in scoring,
Breanne Ha chipped in with 11 points and
Alicia Jones with 10 points. While the offense remained efficient throughout the game, connecting on 28 of 65 shots for 43.1 percent, they also took care of the basketball, only turning the ball over seven times. It was the first time the Broncos had single-digit turnovers since a 69-61 win over UC San Diego on Dec. 22, 2019.
Point Loma was led by Haylee Saurette, who was the only Sea Lion in double-figures with 14 points. PLNU shot just 32 percent on offense, hitting on 16 of 50 shots.
Cal Poly Pomona will head to Biola on Thursday for another non-conference tilt. Tipoff is set for 6:00 pm.
