POMONA – Ally Bates scored a team-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers and
Alicia Jones added 12 points, but the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team suffered a 77-64 loss to undefeated Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos snap a three-game win streak, falling to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA. The Toros, meanwhile, remain unblemished on the season, rising to 7-0 overall (3-0 CCAA) for their best start in 37 years.
CPP got off to a quick start, scoring the first five points of the contest and eventually led after the first quarter, 21-19. Both teams traded baskets for much of the second period, but CSUDH went on an 11-3 late and took a nine-point halftime lead to 43-34.
In the second half, the Broncos got to within seven points at 48-41 with 4:14 left, but that's as close as they would get as the deficit would grow to double-digits and remain there the rest of the way.
Bates finished the night one point off of her season high with 20 of 7 of 17 shooting, including 4 of 10 from three-point range. Jones added double-digit points for the sixth game this season, matching a season-high of 12 points.
Reina Sausedo came off the bench to score a season-high nine points.
Donja Payne chipped in with eight points, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.
As a team, the Broncos shot 38.6 percent from the floor on 22 of 57 while the Toros were effective on 45.8 percent of their shots (33 of 72).
CSUDH was led by the 22 points from Nala Williams, who was one of three Toros in double-figures.
Cal Poly Pomona will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 18 hosting Cal State East Bay at 1:00 pm.
