Broncos Topped by a Sea Lions Penalty Kick

POMONA – In the first double-header of the season, Cal Poly Pomona faced the projected leader of the PacWest, Point Loma. The Broncos set the pace but were unable to connect, falling to the Sea Lions, 0-1.

In the 18th minute of the match, PLNU was awarded a penalty kick that was scored by forward Alana Diaz giving the Sea Lions the lead and eventually the win. The Broncos overall record now stands at 0-3-0.

At the conclusion of the game, CPP attempted seven shots against PLNU's 13 shots. Goalkeeper Audrey Brown collected five saves, the most saves in a single game on the season. Forward Tara Oper went for three shots, all shots on goal. Jessica Llamas attempted two shots of her own.

"The teams' competitive level was much improved from the last game" said coach Jay Mason. "It's encouraging we were able to create good chances against one of the top team in the country, but we need to get the details dialed in. We have a young group that is eager to improve, and we are looking forward to a great week of preparation for out next match in Colorado."

CPP has a week before their next match in Denver, Colo. when they face Regis on Friday September 9th. The Broncos next home match is on Friday, September 23rd against Azusa Pacific for their last preseason challenge.

Bronco Bits: Cal Poly Pomona seventh-year head coach Jay Mason moved to 43-35-15 in his coaching career ... CPP still leads with 6-4-0 all-time record against Point Loma.
