POMONA – The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks had the lead 71-70 in overtime when freshman guard
Shyheim Parm scored the game winning bucket with two seconds on the clock to win the game 72-71 in Kellogg Arena on Thursday evening.
The Broncos improve their overall record to 8-6 and 5-5 in the CCAA conference. The Lumberjacks record falls to 9-8 overall and 7-4 CCAA.
There were six lead changes and five ties throughout the game as CPP found themselves in the lead, 65-61, with 1:05 left in regulation time. A foul on the made three-point shot by HUM sent the Lumberjacks to the line for an and one, to bring the game to a tie 65-65 forcing the game into overtime.
In overtime the Lumberjacks took the lead 71-69 by scoring on the fastbreak. Parm then brought the Broncos within one point, 71-70, after making one of his two free throws. After the Broncos defense forced a five second call against HUM, Parm drove to the basket and scored the contested off hand layup to win the game, 72-71.
CPP had three Broncos score 17 points each. Parm shot 5-12 from the field and had three rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward
Caleb Nelson score 17 points shooting 6-10 from the field and an impressive 5-6 from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard
Christopher Mitchell also scored 17 points and had seven rebounds and three assists.
The Broncos' next game is Saturday, January 21st as they take on the Sonoma State Seawolves in Kellogg Arena, with tip-off set for 3:00 pm.
