Broncos Split Season Series With No. 21 Cougars

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Breanne Ha and Alicia Jones each scored a team-high 12 points, but the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team lost 75-53 to No. 21 Cal State San Marcos on Thursday night at The Sports Center in San Marcos.

The Broncos fall to 12-5 overall and 9-4 in the CCAA. The Cougars improve to 14-3 overall and 11-2 in conference action.

Cal State San Marcos led from start to finish in the contest, but CPP remained close in the first half, pulling within one point on a pair of occasions, the last being an 18-17 score early in the second quarter. However, from that point on, the Cougars finished the half on a 21-7 run and essentially put the game out of the Broncos' reach and would trail by double-digits the rest of the way.

Jones scored her 12 points on 5 of 9 from the floor and 2 of 4 from the free throw line, adding team-highs of seven rebounds and three assists. Ha went 4 of 11 (2 of 5 from beyond the arc) and hit both free throw attempts to account for her 12 tallies. Chynna Cochran added nine points on 4 of 10 shooting with three boards, while Ally Bates matched Cochran with nine points.

The Broncos were held to 34.4 percent shooting (21 of 61) while the Cougars connected on 47.5 percent of their shots (28 of 59). CSUSM also hit 12 three-pointers to CPP's 4.

Katie Fitzgerald led all scorers with 24 points for the hosts.

Cal Poly Pomona continues its four-game road trip Saturday with a 1:00 pm tipoff at Cal State LA in a battle for third place in the CCAA standings.
