Seawolves Stun Broncos in Five, Duke Climbs All-Time Kills List

POMONA, CA – The nationally-ranked Broncos took their first loss at home on Saturday afternoon, falling to Sonoma State in five sets. This was CPP's first loss at home in exactly one year, as the last time they lost in Kellogg Arena was October 21st, 2022 against No. 24 Cal State LA in a game which, ironically, was also dedicated to DigPink and breast cancer awareness.

Saturday's loss closes out an incredible run on their home court, having won 13 consecutive matches and outscoring opponents 39-4 during that stretch. During the Traci Dahl-era, the Broncos own a 34-14 (.708) record at home and are 32-4 (.889) in the past three seasons.

The Broncos fall to 15-5 on the season, 10-1 at home, and 8-4 in conference. They are now tied with San Francisco State for third in the CCAA standings and are three games back from Cal State LA in first place.

Senior Daisy Duke added to her historic career at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, notching 10 kills to bring her career total to 1,122. This moves her into sole possession of fifth on the all-time CPP kills list, passing Kellie Francis (1,118 from 2002-05) and Kimberly Van Beek (1,116 from 2000-03). Duke is also now tied with Jenna Young (2005-08) for sixth on the all-time points list with 1,292.5 in her career.

Duke 5th All-Time Kills
Daisy Duke now ranks 5th all-time in career kills.

The team delivered a gritty performance against the Seawolves, forcing five sets and fighting until the final point despite things not going their way. The Broncos struggled to find their rhythm on attack, recording their lowest attack percentage of the season at .160 while Sonoma State recorded a season-high 15 blocks. The Seawolves were able to keep many rallies alive, recording their second-most digs of the season at 77.

Up Next
The Broncos will have back-to-back road trips over the next two weeks, first with games up north at Chico State and Stanislaus State. The following weekend, November 3rd and 4th, CPP will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA on the road. You can catch every game on the CCAA Network.
