POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos had three student-athletes score double figures in loss to Chico State in the last game of the season, 59-58.
The Broncos close the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 12-14 and CCAA conference record of 9-13. Chico State closed the regular CCAA conference season with a record of 12-15 overall and 10-12 CCAA. The Wildcats move on to play the San Francisco State Gators in the first round of the CCAA tournament held in Turlock, March 2

The game had seven lead exchanges and four ties with Chico controlling most of the game holding the lead 68.3 percent of the time. The largest lead the Wildcats had was 11 points with 12:26 on the clock in the second half. The Broncos largest lead was five points in the first half.
The Broncos scored 36 of their total points from the paint against the Wildcats 18 points from the paint. In the last five minutes of the game CPP went on a 12-9 run to bring the score 57-55. With one second left on the clock, freshman guard
Bam Johnson hit a deep three-pointer as the clock ran out and the Wildcats took the win, 59-58.
Leading the Broncos in points was freshman forward
Derrick Claxton who scored 14 points and had nine rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard
Jaden Winfield scored 12 points, shooting four for eight from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. Also scoring 12 points was Johnson who also had three assists, and six rebounds.
