POMONA – The No. 25-ranked Cal Poly Pomona baseball team salvaged a Sunday doubleheader split with a walkoff win in game two to capture the series win over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay at Scolinos Field in Pomona.
The Broncos move to 13-5 overall and 5-3 in the CCAA. The Otters fall to 10-9 (8-4 CCAA).
It was all CSUMB in game one, as the Otters scored seven runs in the sixth inning and seven more runs in the seventh inning to cruise to an 18-3 win. They pounded out 19 hits in the contest.
In the series finale, CSUMB took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning, but a
Johnny Pappas solo home run in the sixth tied the game, and in the eighth inning of the scheduled seven-inning game,
Tyler Chaffee reached on a throwing error, allowing
Brent Cota to score the game-winning run from third base.
Cal Poly Pomona will return to action next weekend with a four-game series at Chico State beginning Friday.
