ATLANTA — Cal Poly Pomona assistant women's basketball coach
Olivia Luu has been named as one of the 2023 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 honorees, it was announced by the organization Monday.
The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.
"Congratulations to these 30 coaches who have distinguished themselves so early in their careers," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The WBCA is pleased to recognize this up-and-coming talent in our coaching family. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes."
"I know this has been a goal of Olivia's and she worked very hard to earn it," said CPP head coach
Danelle Bishop. "Well deserved, Liv. We are all very proud of you. Congratulations!"
Luu just wrapped up her second season on the sidelines for the Broncos that went 18-11 this season and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019-20.
Prior to coming to CPP, she served two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Gonzaga women's basketball team in Spokane, Wash. With Luu overseeing several aspects of team operations, the Bulldogs went 51-7 and 33-2 in West Coast Conference play, including a WCC Tournament championship in 2020-21. In May 2021, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership, boasting a 3.90 grade point average.
Luu played four years of collegiate basketball at William Jessup University in Rocklin, Calif. A native of Riverbank, Calif., she started at point guard for the Warriors, averaging 7.9 points shooting 35.2 percent from the floor for her career.
