POMONA – Ben Lee went 3 for 3 with a double and a RBI,
Bobby Hook added a double and
AJ Nimeh recorded a triple with a RBI, but that would be the extent of the offense as the No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona baseball team lost 11-3 to Biola in the final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday at Scolinos Field in Pomona.
The Broncos fall to 10-4 while the Eagles rise to 5-13.
It was all Biola from the start, jumping out to an 8-0 lead after four innings. CPP finally got a pair of runs back in the fifth when
Nick Lugo returned from injury and lifted a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Lee, followed by Hook's RBI double to left field scoring
Cedrick Perez.
Two more runs came home for Biola in the sixth, then Lee had a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to score Nimeh, cutting the deficit to 10-3. However, Biola's Wyatt Duncan put the exclamation point on the night with a solo home run to left center field to account for the 11-3 final in favor of the visitors.
The Broncos got just five hits off six different Biola pitchers on the night. Meanwhile, the Eagles were able to scatter 14 hits off of six different Cal Poly Pomona hurlers.
All nine players in the Eagles' line up registered a hit. Duncan was the offensive leader going 3 for 4 with a double, home run, two RBI and three runs scored.
Cal Poly Pomona will return to conference play Friday when it hosts Cal State Monterey Bay for the first game of a four game series at Scolinos Field this weekend. First pitch Friday is set for 6:00 pm.
