SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Thomas Tuff captured the individual title in the Discus, highlighting day one of the 2023 CCAA Track and Field Championships at the Mangrum Track and Field Complex in San Marcos on Thursday afternoon.
Tuff hurled the Discus 45.98 meters on his fourth of six attempts, which moved him above teammate and reigning discus champion
Aaron May, who recorded a throw of 45.79 meters on his second attempt.
Dom Navarrette-Perez completed the podium sweep for the Broncos, earning a third place finish with a 45.72 meter toss on his final throw.
Khai Redd also registered team points in the event, taking sixth place with a mark of 43.47m.
Tuff's win in the event is the seventh individual title in the Discus for the Broncos in the history of the CCAA Championships.
In the Decathlon,
Gabriel Zapata is in second place through five of the 10 events with 3,470 points, trailing the leader Jordan Ausbie of Chico State by 90 points.
Gerwin de Haan tallied 3,378 points and sits in third place while
Gavin Hanes is in sixth with 2,957 points. The final five events of the Decathlon will commence Friday at 10:00 am beginning with the 110m Hurdles.

With the success in the Discus, CPP leads the team standings after day one with 27 points, followed by Chico State with 7 and Cal State San Marcos with 5.

The rest of the Cal Poly Pomona men will go to work Friday after the Decathlon wraps up, beginning with the Steeplechase set for 2:35 pm.
