SAN MARCOS, Calif. – For the second consecutive season, the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team captured the CCAA Track and Field championship with a meet record 311 points this weekend at Mangrum Track and Field Complex in San Marcos.
Justin Cardoza was named the Field Athlete of the Meet, the Freshman of the Meet, and was the Meet's High Point Award winner while head coach
Chris Bradford was named the CCAA Men's Coach of the Year.
It is the fifth CCAA title for the program.
The Broncos won an unprecedented 11 titles, earning first place finishes in more than half of the 21 events contested during the three-day meet. The 11 individual conference titles are a program record. In all, CPP has now won 159 individual CCAA titles since 1967. A total of 37 All-CCAA medals were handed out to CPP student-athletes.
INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION TRACKER (11)
- Thomas Tuff won the Discus with a throw of 49.98 meters. It is the seventh CCAA title in the Discus in program history, and the second in as many years (Aaron May won it last year).
- Nicholas Albro won the Steeplechase with a time of 9:13.27. It is the 11th CCAA title in the Steeple in program history, and the first since 2002.
- Gerwin de Haan won the Decathlon with a score of 6,761 points. It is the sixth-best Decathlon score in program history, and is the 12th CCAA title in the Decathlon for CPP all-time (the first since 2016).
- Aaron May won the Hammer Throw with a personal-best toss of 54.60 meters. It is just the fourth CCAA title in the Hammer in program history, and the first since 1991.
- Deandre Smith won the Long Jump with a career-best leap of 7.34 meters. It is the fifth-longest jump in program history, and is the seventh CCAA title in the Long Jump for CPP all-time (first since 2009).
- Matteo Madrassi won the Pole Vault with a mark of 5.03 meters. It is the sixth CCAA title in the Pole Vault for CPP all-time (fifth title since 2013).
- Ryan Fields won the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.36. It is the 10th title in the event in program history.
- Gerwin de Haan won the Javelin with a throw of 54.33 meters! It is the sixth CCAA title in the event for CPP, and the first since 1995.
- Joshua Johnson wins his second straight 100m Dash title with a time of 10.49, it is the 11th CCAA title in the event for the program.
- Ryan Fields won the 400m Hurdles with a new career-best time (and new school record time) of 50.65. It is the eighth CCAA title for the Broncos all-time in the event.
- Justin Cardoza won the Triple Jump with a leap of 14.53m. It is the seventh CCAA title for the program.
