POMONA, Calif. – With baseball season just around the corner, multiple preseason polls and accolades have been released in the past week. The Broncos found themselves near the top in each poll, while multiple student-athletes received preseason recognition.
After a 29-23 season in 2023 that saw the Broncos make their seventh NCAA appearance in the past eight seasons (excluding COVID), head coach
Randy Betten looks to lead the Broncos back to the College World Series in Cary, North Carolina in 2024. Betten, who enters his 13
th season at the helm, owns a record of 384-242 (.613) while posting a winning record in each of his 12 seasons. During this stretch, the Broncos have won two NCAA West Region Titles (2015, 2016), two CCAA Regular Season Titles (2015, 2016), and three CCAA Tournament Titles (2015, 2019, 2022).
CCAA Preseason Rankings & Watchlist
It was announced earlier today that the Broncos were ranked No. 3 in the CCAA preseason poll, receiving 100 points and two first-place votes. Cal State Monterey Bay earned the top spot in the conference, receiving five first-place votes and 114 points, while reigning west region champion Cal State San Bernardino was second with four first-place votes and 111 points. Last season, the Broncos went a combined 6-6 against these two teams, including a 3-1 record in both regular season series.
There was a sizeable point gap between the Broncos and the fourth-place Cal State East Bay Pioneers, suggesting that the top three teams will likely duke it out for the conference title this spring.
Additionally, pitchers
Caleb Reyes and
Rhys Stevens were named to the CCAA Preseason Watchlist, having both been named to the All-CCAA First Team and Reyes being named CCAA Most Valuable Pitcher last season. The two anchored a pitching staff that ranked third in the conference in earned run average (4.61) and finished first in WHIP (1.39). CPP also added transfer
Cole Anderson, who was an All-CCAA Second Team honoree at Cal State East Bay last season.

NCBWA West Region Rankings & All-America
On Tuesday, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced that the Broncos were ranked fifth in the West Region preseason poll, their same seeding as the NCAA Tournament last May. The Broncos received 63 points, behind Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Monterey Bay, Point Loma, and Azusa Pacific. Both the CCAA and PacWest featured four teams in the Top 10 in the region, while the GNAC had two schools. In the past 20 seasons, the CCAA has sent a team to the College World Series a staggering 17 times, including CPP in 2015 and 2016, while the PacWest has sent two teams and the GNAC sending one.
Additionally, multiple west region teams found themselves in the NCBWA DII Top 25 poll that was released on Wednesday, Cal State San Bernardino ranked at No. 4 nationally, Cal State Monterey Bay at No. 14, and Point Loma at No. 21.
On Friday, it was announced that
Caleb Reyes earned NCBWA All-America Preseason honors, being named as an honorable mention. Reyes is coming off a stellar 2023 campaign that culminated in being named ABCA Third Team All-American and West Region Pitcher of the Year.
