Broncos' Dominance Shines in 79-56 Victory Over Toros

CARSON, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona delivered a commanding performance against the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on Saturday afternoon, securing a 79-56 victory.

The key contributor to the Broncos' victory was senior guard Breanne Ha, who showcased her skills by going 5-for-9 from beyond the arc, accounting for half of the team's three-pointers in the game. Ha hit a clutch step-back three-pointer in the final second of the game, marking her 130th career three-pointer. She notched an impressive 21 points, along with two assists and two steals. Ha's prowess places her in fourth in the CCAA for both 3PT Field Goal Percentage, a .368 accuracy, and 3PT Field Goals Per Game, averaging 2.7.

Contributing to the Broncos' offensive firepower were Kalaya Buggs and Sydney Nelson, both putting up double-digit scores. Buggs had 16 points with seven assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Meanwhile, Nelson contributed 13 points and displayed an all-around performance with nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and three steals. 

The Broncos displayed dominance throughout the entire game, consistently outscoring the Toros, except in the 4th quarter Their commanding performance peaked in the third quarter, where they achieved a remarkable 27-point lead with 1:35 remaining.

The Broncos have showcased a notable turnaround against the Toros as the last five encounters were Toros victories. Notably, the Broncos held the Toros to only 10 points in the first quarter, marking the lowest score they've allowed since 2020.

Establishing themselves as second in the CCAA, the Broncos have an impressive scoring margin of 14.9, surpassing the next closest team at 10.8. Offensively, they hold the second position with an average of 73.9 points, closely trailing Chico State's leading 76.0 points. Defensively, the Broncos also rank second, allowing an average of 59.0 points per game.

With an improved overall record of 9-3 and a 5-2 in the CCAA, the Broncos currently rank second behind only Cal State San Marcos (6-1).

Looking ahead, the Broncos aim to extend their four-game win streak against Sonoma State as they return to Kellogg Arena this Thursday, January 11th, at 5:30 pm. The Seawolves, currently in fourth place in the CCAA with a 4-3 conference record, present the next challenge for the Broncos in their pursuit of continued success.
