Broncos Record 7,000th Win in Department History

POMONA, Calif. – Volleyball's 3-0 sweep on Saturday marked a historic milestone in Cal Poly Pomona Athletics, as it was the 7,000th win in department history across all win-loss-tie sports.

The first recorded win in department history came on October 11, 1947, in a football game against Whittier College. In the 77 years since, the department has a .571 overall winning percentage in nearly 12,500 contests. This includes 2,436 wins at home, as Cal Poly Pomona teams have a remarkable .658 winning percentage on their home court/field.

The No. 6 ranked Broncos dominated Cal State San Marcos once again on Saturday afternoon, earning their 11th sweep of the season to improve to 16-1 overall. The Broncos remain perfect in conference with a 10-0 CCAA record, and thanks to a San Francisco State loss, now have at least a two-game lead over every other team in the conference. They also extend their win streak to 12 straight matches, tying the third-longest streak in school history.

In similar fashion to Friday's win, the Green & Gold owned the first and second sets, winning by scores of 25-13 and 25-12. The third set would prove to be more difficult, as a late surge by the Cougars would even the set at 24-24. Back-to-back kills by Alexia Athans and Samantha Campion would close out the match, sealing CPP's 7,000th win. In six sets against the Cougars this weekend, the Broncos outscored CSUSM 151-89.

The trio of Campion, Sarah Ybarra, and Charlotte Koerber shined in the match, each with double-digit kills and an attack percentage above .350. Ybarra and Campion recorded double-doubles with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, while Koerber was close behind with eight of her own. Caitie Mueller dished out 45 assists, passing Alina Smith (2014-17) for sixth-most all-time in school history.

Middle blocker Helen McMullin was perfect on attack, recording six kills on six attempts with zero errors. She also led the team with two solo blocks, ranking second on the team with 10 this season.

The Broncos look to continue their winning streak on the road next weekend with matches at Stanislaus State (13-5) and Chico State (7-10).
