Noel Soto of Cal Poly Pomona has been named the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of Feb. 5-11 after a stellar outing.
Â
Soto threw six shutout innings in Broncos' 10-2 win over Azusa Pacific on Friday as Cal Poly Pomona took three of four games against the Cougars. The senior right-hander allowed just three singles, struck out eight and walked two in his first start of the season.
Â
Soto, who is from Lakewood, did not allow a baserunner past first base. On three occasions, he prevented APU from starting rallies after allowing one-out singles.
Â
Azusa Pacific, which was picked to finish second in the PacWest, was a West Regional participating team in 2023. The Cougars are now 2-6 after games against Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Pomona.
Â
This was Soto's second career CCAA Pitcher of the Week award. He had picked up this honor on April 11, 2022 after a 9-inning complete game shutout over SF State.
Â
Cal Poly Pomona will take its 3-1 record to Santa Barbara to take on defending NAIA national champion Westmont in a four-game set starting on Thursday. Westmont is in its first season in the PacWest.
