HAYWARD, Calif. - The Broncos dominated Cal State East Bay on Thursday night, securing a commanding 77-56 victory. With this win, the Broncos' overall record improves to 16-7, with a conference record of 12-6.
The Broncos dominated the opening quarter, amassing 22 points on offense while holding the Pioneers to a mere seven points. In the final 2:41 of the first quarter, Kalaya Buggs nailed a three-pointer from the right side, extending the lead to 11 points. To cap off the quarter, Breanne Ha delivered an alley-oop-esque pass to Buggs, closing the quarter with a score of 22-7 in favor of the Broncos.
The momentum continued into the second quarter as the Broncos outscored the Pioneers 24-11. Andrea Stajic initiated the scoring for the Broncos with a layup, while Ha added two more three-pointers to widen the gap. With 11 seconds remaining in the half, Reina Saucedo connected on a three-pointer, assisted by Ha, sending the Broncos into halftime with a commanding 46-18 lead.
Kalaya Buggs, Sydney Nelson, and Breanne Ha led the charge in the first half as each reached double digits before halftime. Buggs contributed 13 points in the first half, while Nelson and Ha scored 11 points a piece. The Broncos shot 18-for-35 from the field, boasting a 51.4% field goal percentage, and went 5-for-11 from three-point range, shooting 45.5%.
Returning from halftime, the Broncos maintained their momentum, with Buggs sinking a three-pointer to extend the lead to 61-34 with 1:43 left on the clock. By the end of the third quarter, the Broncos held a commanding 66-40 lead, with Buggs contributing two more three-pointers.
On the night, Buggs led the scoring with 24 points, alongside three rebounds and two steals. Nelson added 18 points, one rebound, three assists, and two steals, while Ha contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
Other notable performances came from Reina Sausedo, who made significant defensive contributions with nine rebounds, eight of which came on the defensive end, six points, three assists, one block, and two steals. Mydrea Moore recorded eight rebounds, two points, one assist, two blocks, and two steals.
In the fourth quarter, both teams reached a stalemate after the seven-minute mark, with neither team scoring until there was 4:37 left on the clock when it was broken by the Pioneers. Kayla Keshmeshian scored the final basket of the game for the Broncos with a three-pointer at the 1:02 mark, securing a final score of 77-56.
