POMONA, Calif. - Keke Scott spearheaded the Broncos' dominant performance this Thursday night, contributing 16 points to their commanding 25-point victory over the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters. With this win, the Broncos improved their conference record to 14-6 and their overall record to 18-7.
In the first quarter, the Broncos held a 20-12 lead over the Otters, with Scott leading the charge with 7 points. Scott kicked off the scoring for both sides by making a free throw and subsequently hitting a jumper, the latter off a shovel pass from Kalaya Buggs. Nelson contributed six points in the quarter, while Breanne Ha had three and Buggs contributed three assists and two rebounds.
As the Broncos maintained an eight-point lead headed into the second quarter, Ha executed a no-look drop-off pass to Mydrea Moore, who converted a layup for the Broncos, marking their first two points of the second quarter and extending their lead to 10.. The Broncos continued to assert their dominance, reaching their largest lead of the half at 12 points, coming at the 5:46 mark. As they extended their advantage, the Broncos also clamped down defensively, limiting the Otters to only eight points in the quarter. With just 28 seconds remaining on the clock, Scott aggressively drove to the basket, drawing a foul, and making two shots from the charity stripe to increase her point total to 11.
Heading into halftime, the Broncos had a commanding 36-20 lead. Moore's impact extended beyond scoring, as she also tallied five rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, while Nelson added two rebounds and one block. Breanne Ha chipped in with seven points along with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
With 7:30 remaining in the third quarter, the Broncos were still in search of their first points of the half. Andrea Stajic took initiative, driving from the right-hand side to score, ending the scoring drought. As the pace of scoring slowed, Moore ignited the offense by high-stepping her way to the rim, converting a tough basket and drawing a foul. Her successful three-point play extended the Broncos' lead to 41-21, securing a commanding 20-point advantage.
With just a minute left on the clock, the Otters attempted to make a play under the basket, only to be thwarted by Moore's block. Moore, currently ranked #7 in the CCAA in blocks, added another two to her tally for the night. As the third quarter came to a close, Andrea Stajic executed a reverse layup, sending the Broncos into the fourth with a comfortable 51-30 lead.
Throughout the game, the Broncos showcased consistent offensive prowess while effectively stifling the Otters' scoring opportunities. Their defensive effort limited the Otters' scoring across the board, and they made minimal mistakes en route to a commanding 69-44 victory.
