Broncos Come Up Short in Final Seconds Against Warriors

POMONA, Calif. - The Broncos endured a heartbreaker in their showdown against the Stanislaus State Warriors, falling in the final seconds. The Broncos' record now stands at 14-7 in the CCAA, and 18-8 overall.

Sydney Nelson wasted no time leaving her mark, getting the Broncos on the board with the first basket of the game. With 2:22 remaining in the first quarter, the Broncos gained a two-point lead on a three pointer from Andrea Stajic to make the score 12-10. Stanislaus State then pulled ahead and as the quarter drew to a close, Nelson made back-to-back free throws to bring CPP back within one at 17-16.

The Broncos had a quick start in the second quarter, seeing Stajic sink a three from the right side just 16 seconds in. Stajic remained hot on offense, adding to the Broncos' tally with another three-pointer later in the quarter with 46 seconds left. In the final 30 seconds of the half, the Warriors were able to make a three themselves to even the game at 29-29 headed into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be a challenge for the Broncos offensive, scoring their fewest points of the game at 10 while conceding 17 to the Warriors. Despite Nelson's offensive efforts, collecting the final four points for the Broncos in the third, the Broncos trailed 39-46 heading into the final quarter.

In a fourth-quarter surge, Andrea Stajic delivered a electric three-pointer with 3:29 remaining on the clock, narrowing the gap to just four points. Moments later, Kalaya Buggs was sent to the line, sinking one free throw while the second shot bounced off the rim. However, Sydney Nelson's impressive mid-air putback off the rebound brought the deficit to 55-53.

The Broncos brought the game within one point in the final five seconds on a Buggs free throw, making the score 59-58. In a buzzer-beating attempt, Ha fired off a three that would have been a game-winner, but landed just short off the front of the rim, ending the game and snapping CPP's four-game win streak.

Sydney Nelson delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with 20 points, accompanied by seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Andrea Stajic contributed 14 points and four rebounds, while Mydrea Moore added nine points, five rebounds, one assist, and one block. Buggs and Ha each chipped in with six points, with Buggs also securing six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Despite the loss, the Broncos showcased dominance on the defensive end, grabbing 40 rebounds, including 21 defensive boards. Additionally, the bench played a significant role, contributing 17 points, with Stajic leading the charge with 11 bench points.
