Alessio Sommacal of Cal Poly Pomona has been named the CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week, for the week of Feb. 26-March 3.

Sommacal won both hurdles events at the Beach Opener at Long Beach State this past weekend, including the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. In the 110-meter hurdles, he met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard with a time of 13.99 seconds, which is a new personal best. The time was also a Beach Opener meet record and he now ranks first in NCAA Division II.Â

The junior from Belluno, Veneto, Italy also clocked 54.20 seconds to win the 400-meter hurdles.

Sommacal was the CCAA Championship runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles in 2023. This is his first CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week award.Â
