Cruz’s Early Goal Lifts No. 5 Broncos to 1-0 Victory

CARSON, Calif. - A first-half goal proved to be the difference as the No. 5 Broncos secured a 1-0 road win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday afternoon, improving to 10-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in CCAA play.

The decisive moment came in the 18th minute when Vanessa Cruz scored the lone goal of the match off an assist from Kiarra D'Arcangelo. The Broncos created chances throughout the game, finishing with 24 total shots and seven on target, but Cruz's goal was the only one to find the back of the net.

Cal Poly Pomona controlled the tempo for much of the match, but it was their defense and goalkeeper Jenna Tetrault who ensured the result held. Tetrault recorded three saves to secure her fifth shutout of the season.

Cruz led the Broncos with six shots and two on goal, while D'Arcangelo added five shots and the assist. Angelina Rivas nearly doubled the lead early in the second half, hitting the crossbar just after the break.

Despite being outshot, Dominguez Hills remained in the match with a solid showing in goal, recording six saves to keep the deficit at one. The Toros also battled physically, committing 14 fouls and receiving one yellow card. Cal Poly Pomona finished with seven corner kicks to Dominguez Hills' one and drew 11 fouls of their own. The win helps keep the Broncos in strong position as the CCAA playoff picture begins to take shape.
