Tetrault’s Shutout and Cruz’s Strike Propel Broncos Past Pioneers

POMONA, Calif. - In front of a home crowd at Kellogg Stadium, No. 3-ranked Cal Poly Pomona came away with a gritty 1-0 win over Cal State East Bay on Sunday afternoon in the CCAA/FloCollege Game of the Week. The result pushed the Broncos to 12-1-2 overall and 5-1-2 in conference play, keeping their postseason hopes strong as the regular season enters its final stretch.

The deciding moment came in the 20th minute when Vanessa Cruz scored her 10th goal of the season. Cruz finished a clean pass from Braedyn Kincade, who recorded her first assist as a Bronco. Cruz led the offensive charge with five shots on goal, consistently putting pressure on the East Bay defense.

Cal Poly Pomona dictated the tempo from the opening whistle, outshooting the Pioneers 22-5 and holding a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. The Broncos created numerous scoring chances through Marisa Salazar, Angelina Rivas, Liberty Ortiz, and Kiarra D'Arcangelo, but the early strike from Cruz proved to be all the offense they needed.

On the defensive end, the Broncos delivered another composed and disciplined performance. Goalkeeper Jenna Tetrault tallied five saves to secure the shutout, while the back line anchored by Mikaela Marr and Ortiz kept East Bay's attack contained throughout the match.

With the win, Cal Poly Pomona continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play.
