POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball used a dominant fourth quarter and a balanced scoring effort to pull away from Biola, earning a 66-57 victory on Tuesday night inside Kellogg Arena. With the win, the Broncos improve to 3-1 on the season while the Eagles fall to 2-2.
Trailing 49-47 entering the final period, the Broncos erupted for 19 fourth-quarter points while holding the Eagles to just eight. CPP opened the frame with a pair of finishes from
Jeanette Fine, sparking a 7-0 run that flipped the momentum for good.
Kadence Lloyd drilled a three to extend the lead to 54-49, and layups by
Madison Eade and Lloyd would help the lead reach 10.
The Broncos' defensive intensity fueled the turnaround. CPP forced 21 Biola turnovers overall and held the Eagles to 3-for-15 shooting in the fourth. Eade anchored the closing effort on both ends, finishing with a career-high 16 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, and securing five rebounds to help the Broncos maintain control. As a team, the Green & Gold shot an impressive 24-for-27 (.889) from the free throw line.
Offensively, CPP had four players score in double figures.
Mydrea Moore delivered a steady interior presence, posting 13 points and seven rebounds, while Fine added 10 points, five steals, and a team-best +20 plus/minus impact.
Brielle Minor had 11 points on the night after going 6-for-7 from the line, while Lloyd almost reached double figures with nine points on the scoresheet.
Cal Poly Pomona owned the paint throughout the night, outscoring Biola 32-22 inside and collecting 12 second-chance points behind 15 boards on the offensive glass. Despite a 22-point third-quarter surge by the Eagles, the Broncos were able to take control in the fourth to claim their third win of the season.
