No. 25 Women’s Basketball Outlasts CUI for Gritty Two-Point Victory

IRVINE, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball closed out a resilient road victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Concordia Irvine 61-59 at CU Arena. The Broncos surged late, outscoring the Golden Eagles 24-17 in the fourth quarter to improve to 4-1 on the season.
 
Sydney Nelson led CPP with 20 points, including a clutch sequence at the free-throw line in the final minute. The junior guard went 9-13 at the stripe, helping stabilize the Broncos during a tense closing stretch. Brielle Minor provided eight points, five coming in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, and added a momentum-shifting trey that gave CPP its final lead of the game with 7:50 on the clock.
 
Forward Khamiyah Anderson anchored the interior with a game-high 13 rebounds, including multiple second-chance opportunities that allowed the Broncos to control possession down the stretch. Mydrea Moore added nine rebounds and four points, while steady contributions from Jeanette Fine (eight points and four assists) fueled the team's balanced approach. CPP finished with 48 total rebounds, tying a season-high, and outscoring the Golden Eagles 14-4 in second chance points.  
 
Trailing 42-37 entering the fourth, the Broncos immediately shifted the momentum with a 14-2 run ignited by Nelson, Minor, and Hunter Hudson, who delivered multiple rebounds, a block, and a steal in the middle minutes. CPP claimed its largest lead of the afternoon, nine points, on a basket from Anderson with 1:30 to go.
 
Concordia threatened late, hitting a pair of deep threes in the final minute, but the Broncos held firm at the line as Nelson and Kadence Lloyd combined for crucial free throws to seal the win. Lloyd added a career-high 11 points to the scoresheet, going 5-for-6 from the line and making three field goals. CPP's defense forced 13 turnovers overall, converting them into 13 points.

The Broncos will have their CCAA Opener this Thursday, December 4th, at home in Kellogg Arena against Cal State LA. The Broncos are 7-3 against the Golden Eagles in their past 10 games and are currently on a four-game winning streak.
