POMONA, Calif. – No. 19 ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball improved to 7-1 on Saturday afternoon, after holding off a late surge to defeat No. 17 Central Washington by a score of 70-67. The Broncos controlled the game for more than 36 minutes, building a 23-point lead early in the third quarter before securing the win at the free-throw line in the closing seconds.
CPP's balanced scoring was led by
Jeanette Fine, who finished with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting while adding a team-best three field goals from beyond the arc.
Brielle Minor provided a steady two-way presence, totaling 15 points, six assists, and three rebounds.
Hunter Hudson rounded out the double-figure scoring for the Broncos, adding a career-high 13 points with five boards.
The Broncos' bench was pivotal in the win, outscoring Central Washington's reserves 29-3.
Madison Eade added nine points to the scoresheet and provided key defensive minutes. CPP forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 26 points, setting the tone with a 17-7 first quarter and a big 20-point second quarter to gain separation.
Central Washington stormed back in the fourth, cutting the deficit to just two with seven seconds remaining, but Minor calmly sank a late free throw to preserve the win. Despite being outscored 28-14 in the final frame, the Broncos' early dominance and timely execution helped lock down the win over the nationally-ranked Wildcats.
