POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball extended its strong start to the 2025-26 season with a 59-37 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon at Kellogg Arena. The Broncos (6-1, 2-0 CCAA) used a dominant defensive effort and balanced scoring attack to pull away after a tight first quarter.
After trailing 12-11 through the opening 10 minutes, CPP seized control with a 13-4 second quarter, fueled by defensive stops and efficient play in the paint. Per usual,
Sydney Nelson led the offense, finishing with a game-high 20 points while shooting 7-for-13 from the field and 6-for-8 at the line. The junior dictated the tempo throughout, adding five rebounds and four steals as she repeatedly turned defensive pressure into transition opportunities.
Mydrea Moore delivered a standout all-around performance, recording a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double along with four assists and six blocks. Her interior defense set the tone, helping hold the Toros to just 25.4 percent shooting for the game.
Brielle Minor added 10 points, seven defensive rebounds, and seven assists, providing key playmaking during the Broncos' decisive third-quarter run.
CPP separated itself with a 16-0 surge midway through the third quarter, pushing the lead to double digits and never looking back. The Broncos outscored CSUDH 21-12 in the final period, highlighted by efficient free-throw shooting (10-for-11 in the fourth) and continued defensive pressure.
Cal Poly Pomona dominated points in the paint (32-18) and won the rebounding battle 48–36, showcasing a collective team effort that carried through all four quarters.
