POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona secured the series win against Stanislaus State on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Warriors 13-2 in the series finale. With the win, the Broncos improve to 13-24 on the season and 10-18 in conference play, and now sit above the Warriors in the standings. CPP lit up the scoreboard with 14 hits and 11 RBIs, their third-most runs scored in a game this season.
Â
The Broncos came out swinging, putting up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-run double down the left field line by
Robbie Treto. After Stanislaus State got one back in the second, CPP responded with a three-run burst in their half of the inning.
Beau Betten was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, and
Julian Angulo followed with a two-RBI single up the middle, extending the lead to 5–1.
Â
But the knockout blow came in the fourth, when the Broncos exploded for six runs. Angulo led the charge again, launching a three-run home run to left, his fifth of the season. The home run took on a bigger meaning as well, as it marked
Johnny Pappas' 168
th career run scored, tying Tom Weeks (1984-87) for the all-time Cal Poly Pomona record. With just one more, he will stand alone at the top. Â
Â
Sebastian Arguelles then doubled down the left field line later in the inning, scoring Treto. Pappas and Betten were then hit on back-to-back pitches with the bases loaded, still in the fourth inning, plating two more to bring the score to 11-1.
Â
On the mound, senior
Tyler Reiter turned in one of his best starts of the year, going six strong innings and giving up just one earned run on six hits. He earned his second win of the season while keeping the Warriors off balance on 78 pitches.
Â
The Broncos tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, including a wild pitch that plated a run and an RBI single to center field from Arguelles.
Â
Freshman
Christian Gomez had a career game, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, while every starter reached base at least once. The defense was clean as well, turning two double plays and committing no errors.

Up Next
Cal Poly Pomona will travel up north next weekend for a series against San Francisco State. With the recent news that the Gators will be eliminating their baseball program at the conclusion of the season, this series will likely be the last four games the two squads will ever play against one another.
