"Being ranked No. 1 in the preseason is a reflection of the work we've put in, but it doesn't define us," said seventh year head coach
Traci Dahl. "Our emphasis is on showing up every day, getting better, and controlling what we can control. That mindset is what got us here, and it's what will carry us through the season, especially when we know there's a target on our back."
Â
Despite losing seven seniors from last year's squad, the Broncos return a wealth of talent in all-conference juniors
Sarah Ybarra,
Alexia Athans, and
Charlotte Koerber. Ybarra, a setter/opposite from La Habra, is coming off a standout sophomore season that garnered AVCA All-America Second Team honors and AVCA National Player of the Week status. Those three, in addition to an experienced group of redshirt freshmen and sophomores, will be key contributors for the Broncos this fall.
Â
"We're fortunate to have a deep group of returners who are stepping into their roles well and showing a lot of growth," continued Dahl. "We're excited about the potential across the board."
Â
The Broncos have brought in some impact transfers to bolster the team, including former CCAA opponents
Kaden Young from Sonoma State and
Anastacia Garza from San Francisco State. Garza, a junior from Sacramento, is fresh off helping San Francisco State finish national runner-up last December, while also earning NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team and All-CCAA Second Team honors. Transfers
Sydney May,
Rachel Mau,
Alexia Zammit,
Renee Nachtigall, as well as four freshmen are all expected to help CPP remain atop the west region.
Â
"All of our newcomers bring something unique to the table, and that's what makes this group so exciting," added Dahl. "Each one has the potential to contribute in meaningful ways, and we fully expect them to make an impact throughout the season. Whether it's in practice or in games, they're already adding value to our team."
Â
The Broncos will open the season on the road at the Western Washington Invitational next weekend in Bellingham, Washington, followed by three matches at the Cal State LA Invitational. They will open up CCAA play on the road at Chico State on September 18
th, before having their home opener against Cal State Monterey Bay on September 26
th.
Â
The 2025 CCAA Tournament will be held at Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock, the first time the venue has hosted the event since 2018. The Broncos hope to host the NCAA West Regionals for a second straight year, which would take place December 4-6
th.
Â
"We're really excited to kick off the season," concluded Dahl. "After two strong scrimmages, the team is locked in and focused on building off the success we've had in the past. The effort, competitiveness, and commitment they've shown so far have been impressive, and I'm looking forward to watching their continued growth as the season unfolds."
