SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona bounced back in CCAA play on Saturday afternoon, earning a 68-60 road victory over Cal State San Bernardino. The win improves the Broncos to 9-7 overall and 4-6 in conference, as CPP delivered a composed second-half performance to secure the regular season split with the Yotes.
The Broncos established control early, pairing defensive energy with balanced offense to open up a first-half lead. Demarreya Lewis-Cooper paced CPP on the offensive end, attacking the lane and knocking down shots from the perimeter as the Broncos built a double-digit advantage midway through the half. Cal State San Bernardino responded late, trimming the margin with transition scoring and a last-second three, but Cal Poly Pomona carried a 28-24 edge into halftime.
Momentum swung early in the second half as the Yotes briefly pushed ahead, tightening the game with physical play and interior scoring. CPP answered with poise, reclaiming the lead behind timely shot-making from Lewis-Cooper. The Broncos steadied themselves defensively and began to separate midway through the half.
Cal Poly Pomona closed the game with efficiency and discipline, converting key free throws and limiting CSUSB's opportunities down the stretch. The Broncos shot over 54 percent in the second half and went 12-of-13 from the line after the break, preventing the Yotes from mounting a late comeback.
Lewis-Cooper led all scorers with 21 points, adding six assists to guide the offense. Michael Saba provided a spark with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Kevin Simeth anchored the interior with nine rebounds and two blocks. Malcolm Bell contributed on the glass and sealed the win at the free-throw line in the final seconds as the Broncos closed out the 68-60 result.
