Broncos Drop Home Matchup to No. 3 Cal State East Bay

POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona saw its momentum slowed Thursday night, falling 79-46 to No. 3 Cal State East Bay and moving to 10-9 overall and 5-8 in CCAA play. The Pioneers controlled the game from start to finish, using defensive pressure and transition offense to pull away early and maintain separation throughout.

East Bay set the tone in the opening minutes, forcing turnovers and converting them into quick points to build an early cushion. The Broncos had difficulty establishing an offensive rhythm in the first half, as the visitors extended the lead behind strong guard play and efficient finishing around the basket. CPP trailed 39-18 at the break after shooting 20.8 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

Cal Poly Pomona showed increased aggression coming out of halftime, attacking the paint and getting to the free-throw line. Despite the improved effort, East Bay continued to dictate the pace, answering each Broncos run with timely baskets and capitalizing on second-chance and fast-break opportunities to keep the margin intact. Cal Poly Pomona was unable to close the gap down the stretch, as East Bay closed out the night with a decisive 79-46 victory.
