HAYWARD, Calif. – The Broncos extended their win streak to an even 10 straight games on Sunday afternoon, defeating Cal State East Bay 77-61 on the road in Pioneer Gym. With the win, No. 14 ranked Cal Poly Pomona improves to 11-1 overall on the season and are one of three teams in the conference with a perfect 6-0 CCAA record.
Sydney Nelson led all scorers with 22 points, going 11-for-19 from the field and finishing the weekend with an impressive 53 points scored.
Hunter Hudson recorded her second consecutive double-double performance, adding 16 points with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Andrea Stajic chipped in 14 points, including tying a career-high with four three-pointers, to stretch the defense and fuel several momentum-shifting runs.
Brielle Minor had a historic performance on Sunday, tying Cathy Gooden (January 9
th, 1989) for the school record with 14 assists in a single game. Minor also added three points and three rebounds while orchestrating the offensive rhythm.
The Broncos shot an efficient 66.7 percent in the first quarter to take a 22-17 lead, then steadily pulled away with balanced scoring and defensive pressure. Cal Poly Pomona built a 45-32 halftime advantage and delivered its most decisive stretch in the third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 24-9 to push the lead as high as 30 and firmly seize control of the contest.
As a team, Cal Poly Pomona shot 52.4 percent from the field, a season high, while forcing 23 turnovers that turned into 21 points. Despite being outrebounded on the glass, the team's continued defensive pressure held the Pioneers to just 32.3 percent shooting from the field and 16.7 percent beyond the arc.
