POMONA, Calif. – The Broncos delivered yet another dominant performance on Thursday night, cruising to a 76-48 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay at Kellogg Arena. The win marks their 11
th straight win, while also improving to an undefeated 7-0 in CCAA play and 6-0 at home.
The Broncos set the tone immediately, opening the game with relentless defensive pressure. Cal Poly Pomona jumped out to a 24-9 lead after the first quarter, forcing 13 points off turnovers in the opening frame alone. That momentum only built in the second period, as the Broncos outscored the Otters 22-6 to take a commanding 46-15 lead into halftime.
Kadence Lloyd led all scorers with 17 points, attacking the basket consistently while also knocking down timely perimeter shots and going 5-for-5 at the line.
Hunter Hudson added 10 points and eight rebounds, providing a strong presence on the glass. Junior
Jolleen Olia came off the bench to contribute 14 points, her most while wearing the Green & Gold, giving Cal Poly Pomona a spark.
The Broncos' balance was on full display, with nine players scoring and the bench accounting for 31 points.
Andrea Stajic chipped in six points while recording two steals, and
Brielle Minor stuffed the stat sheet with eight assists to go along with four points, consistently setting up teammates in rhythm. In her past three games, Minor has a staggering 30 assists – no other player on the roster has more than 21 assists
this season.
Cal Poly Pomona's defensive effort was a key factor throughout the night, echoing their formula for success during the win streak. The Broncos held Cal State Monterey Bay to just 32.6 percent shooting from the field and forced 20 turnovers, turning those miscues into 30 points. The Broncos also dominated inside, scoring 48 points in the paint and grabbing 18 second-chance points while not allowing the Otters to score any in the entire game.
After the Otters showed some offensive life in the third quarter, Cal Poly Pomona responded with timely stops and efficient offense to maintain control. The Broncos never relinquished the lead, extending it to as many as 34 points in the second quarter. With the win, Cal Poly Pomona improved to 12-1 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 7-0.
