Five-Goal Outburst Powers Broncos Past Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif. – Five goals from four Broncos powered Cal Poly Pomona to a 5-3 victory over Stanislaus State in a back-and-forth conference battle Thursday at Warrior Stadium. CPP improved to 5-4-5 overall and 3-1-3 in CCAA play.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but CPP responded in the 30th when Efren Nunez Dominguez finished a pass from Jose Garcia for his second goal of the season. Ricardo Navarro then scored his first goal as a Bronco off Juan Zaragoza's assist in the 40th minute, giving CPP a 2-1 lead.

Just 25 seconds later, Nico Sanchez converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the year and a 3-1 advantage. The hosts answered in the 43rd minute, sending CPP into halftime ahead 3-2.

Sanchez completed his brace in the 57th minute, finishing Garcia's second assist of the match to restore the Broncos' two-goal cushion. Another opposing goal in the 61st minute cut the lead to 4-3, but Marvin Gamez sealed the result in the 84th. Zaragoza supplied his second assist before Gamez buried his team-leading eighth goal of the season for the final 5-3 margin.

CPP outshot the hosts 15-12 and earned an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks. Victor Casillas led the Broncos with five shots, while Nunez Dominguez, Navarro, Sanchez and Gamez combined for five goals on five shots on target. Goalkeeper Jack Chapman made four saves to earn his fifth victory as CPP collected three important conference points on the road in Turlock.
