SAN FRANCISCO – Cal Poly Pomona volleyball earned a 3-1 victory over San Francisco State on Thursday night, winning 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 25-12 at the Swamp.

The Broncos improved to 16-4 overall while remaining 7-2 in CCAA play with their fourth win in their last five matches.

Renee Nachtigall anchored the back row with a career-high 27 digs, while Sarah Ybarra had a double-double with 14 kills, 12 digs, and a pair of blocks. Entering the weekend, Ybarra ranked Top 10 in the country in both kills per set (4.28) and points per set (4.96).

Cal Poly Pomona established control early in the opening set. After San Francisco State tied the score at 3-3, the Broncos scored six straight points, including four errors by the Gators and kills from both Ybarra and Elle Walker to take a 9-3 advantage. CPP maintained its lead throughout the remainder of the set and finished with a kill from Walker and an ace from Ybarra to win 25-15.

The second set featured several momentum swings before the Broncos created separation late. Ahead 18-17, CPP rattle off five consecutive points thanks in part to two kills from Alexia Athans. Walker closed the set with another kill as the Broncos moved ahead 2-0.

San Francisco State responded in the third set, taking a 19-15 lead. Cal Poly Pomona rallied with three consecutive points, including two Koerber kills, to pull within 19-18, but the Gators held on to force a fourth set.

CPP immediately answered with its strongest stretch of the night. The Broncos opened the fourth set with seven consecutive points, including kills from Athans, Koerber, and Ybarra, two blocks and a pair of San Francisco State attack errors. The lead grew to 16-3, and CPP never allowed the Gators to regain momentum.

Walker led all players with 18 kills while hitting .371. Athans added 12 kills on .500 hitting, and Bowyer finished with 41 assists and 10 digs. As a team, CPP hit .292 and recorded 72 digs.
