Broncos "Storm" Past Sunbirds in Weather-Shortened Victory

POMONA, Calif. -  Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer earned a 2-0 victory over Fresno Pacific on Friday at Kellogg Stadium in a match called after 75 minutes due to severe weather. A storm moved through Pomona, bringing heavy rain, thunder, lightning and even hail to campus.

The No. 21 Broncos improved to 9-1-6 and controlled the match, outshooting the Sunbirds 24-3 and placing 10 attempts on goal. CPP held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks and maintained 59% of possession.

Sabine Ramos broke through in the 29th minute after Bailey Guerrero created the scoring opportunity. Ramos converted for her third goal of the season, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead following sustained pressure that produced 11 shots over the opening 28 minutes.

Charlie Gallardo doubled the advantage in the 41st minute, finishing another feed from Guerrero for her fifth goal of the season. Gallardo led CPP with five shots and placed two on target, while Guerrero recorded assists on both goals.

The Broncos continued attacking after halftime, putting five of their seven second-half shots on frame before weather halted the contest at 75:02. Carly Radke, Kailey Powers, Jenna Santos, Morgan Huff and Guerrero each forced a save during the period.

Goalkeeper Parker LaMont made one save to secure her 12th shutout of the season. The Broncos' defensive unit of Holly Wilbanks, Georgia Rink, Mikaela Marr, Angelina Santana and Lizzy Northcott limited Fresno Pacific to one shot on goal and did not concede a corner kick.

CPP earned its sixth conference victory and remained unbeaten at Kellogg Stadium with the win.
