SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona placed sixth at the 2026 Cougar Challenge on Saturday, scoring 163 points in the men's 8-kilometer race at Mangrum Track & Field.
Freshman
Daniel Cheyer led the Broncos, finishing 17th overall in 25:16.7. Cheyer covered the opening mile in 4:53.3 and reached the two-mile mark in 9:52.0 before closing the final 400 meters in 1:09.0. Cheyer's performance marked the best of his three 8K races so far this season.
Sophomore
Derek Ynfante followed in 24th place with a time of 25:30.6. He was followed by freshmen
Trajan Cephas, who finished 49th in 26:30.9, and
Flynn Gardner, who placed 52nd in 26:35.4.
Sophomore
Thomas Doherty completed the Broncos' scoring group in 69th place with a time of 27:16.4. Freshman
Omar Fabila finished 84th in 27:35.6, while freshman
Mason Colwell placed 108th in 28:49.3.
Cal Poly Pomona's scoring five combined for a team time of 2:11:10, averaging 26:14 per runner. The Broncos finished just ahead of Riverside, which scored 175 points.

The Broncos will head to Lawrence, Kansas for the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet hosted at the site of this year's National Championships. The race will take place on Sunday, October 11
th.

- The Broncos currently have a 40-7 record this season. A "win" is a team they finished ahead of, while a "loss" is teams they finished behind.
