Senior Day Victory, Koerber Ties Ace Record

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team once again delivered on their home court on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Cal Poly Humboldt, 25-17, 25-11, 25-14, at Kellogg Arena.

The Broncos improved to 19-4 overall and 9-2 in CCAA play with their third consecutive victory. The team also clinched a berth into the CCAA Tournament, marking their sixth consecutive appearance since 2021.

Elle Walker led the Broncos with 14 kills on 26 attacks, hitting .385, while Sarah Ybarra added 11 kills, seven digs, four assists, one service ace, and two block assists. Alexia Athans recorded six kills while hitting .364, and Addi Knight contributed four kills and two block assists.

Paige Bowyer coordinated the offense with 32 assists, four kills on six attempts, and a .667 hitting percentage. Charlotte Koerber added four kills, seven service aces, and 13 digs, while Renee Nachtigall collected 11 digs and handled the back row for CPP. Koerber's seven service aces is tied for the most in a single match in program history (under the 25-point scoring format), and is the most of any Bronco player since 2011.

The Broncos overcame an early challenge in the opening set, trailing 6-4 before Koerber sparked a 5-0 run with three service aces. CPP continued to build its advantage behind kills from Ybarra, Walker, and Athans, taking a 13-8 lead. Humboldt briefly trimmed the deficit late, but Walker and an attack error by the Lumberjacks ended the first set 25-17.

Humboldt opened the second set with a 6-4 advantage, but CPP quickly regained control. The Broncos scored the next 12 consecutive points to take a commanding 16-6 lead. Koerber again created pressure from the service line with three aces, while Walker delivered four kills during the decisive stretch. CPP eventually closed out the set, 25-11, on a Humboldt setting error.

The Broncos carried that momentum into the third set, scoring the first four points and building an 8-2 lead. Humboldt made a brief push, cutting the margin to 8-6, but CPP responded with a 6-1 run. Bowyer contributed a kill, Walker added another, and Koerber and Ybarra combined for key points as the Broncos moved ahead, 14-7.

Humboldt later pulled within 18-13, but CPP answered by scoring seven of the final eight points. Athans, Ybarra, and Walker each recorded kills during the closing stretch, and Ybarra finished the match with a service ace.
