Salais’ Overtime Winner Sends Broncos to CCAA Semifinals

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Esteban Salais scored the overtime winner as sixth-seeded Cal Poly Pomona rallied past third-seeded Cal State San Marcos 2-1 in Sunday's CCAA Tournament quarterfinal at The Cage.

The Broncos improved to 8-5-5 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals after overcoming a one-goal deficit. CPP controlled 56% of possession and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Cal State San Marcos opened the scoring in the 37th minute and carried its 1-0 advantage deep into the second half. CPP found the equalizer with 61 seconds remaining in regulation. Vincent Padilla set up Nico Sanchez, who scored his sixth goal of the season to force overtime.

The Broncos needed less than three minutes of the extra period to complete the comeback. Efren Nunez Dominguez and Marvin Gamez combined to assist Salais, who found the net in the 93rd minute for his third goal of the season and sent CPP into the semifinals.

Goalkeeper Kaden Gust delivered a strong performance, making seven saves across 92:48 to earn his third victory. Gust stopped three shots in the opening half and four more after halftime to keep the Broncos within striking distance.

Gamez led CPP with three shots and contributed an assist, while Sanchez and Salais each placed two attempts on goal. CPP finished with 11 shots, including six after halftime.
