Broncos Fall to UC Merced in CCAA Semifinals

POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer fell 1-0 to UC Merced in the CCAA Tournament semifinals at Kellogg Stadium.

The No.12 Broncos moved to 11-2-6 despite controlling the contest throughout. CPP outshot the Bobcats 13-4, placed seven attempts on goal and held advantages in possession, 56-44 percent, and corner kicks, 6-2.

CPP created first-half opportunities, forcing three saves while limiting UC Merced to two shots. Carly Radke, Charlie Gallardo and Braedyn Kincade each placed an attempt on target before halftime, but the match remained scoreless at the break.

Jenna Santos and Georgia Rink tested the goalkeeper early in the second half before Morgan Huff added a shot on goal in the 53rd minute. UC Merced broke the tie in the 65th minute, scoring on one of its two shots on target.

The Broncos pressed after falling behind. Tristan Tessier placed an attempt on goal less than a minute after the score and later added another shot as CPP searched for the equalizer.

Huff led CPP with four shots, while Gallardo and Tessier recorded two apiece. Seven different Broncos placed an attempt on goal. Holly Wilbanks, Rink, Kincade and Mikaela Marr each played all 90 minutes, helping hold the Bobcats to four shots. Parker LaMont made one save.
