Broncos’ CCAA Tournament Run Ends in Semifinals

POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer fell 3-1 to No. 22 Cal State San Bernardino in the CCAA Tournament semifinals Friday night at Kellogg Stadium.

With the loss, the Broncos concluded their 2026 campaign with an 8-6-5 record, returning to the CCAA Tournament and advancing to the conference semifinals.

CPP generated 11 shots, placed four on goal and battled the Coyotes evenly in possession.

Daniel Gutierrez gave Cal Poly Pomona an early lead, finding the net unassisted in the fifth minute for his first goal of the season. Hector Arellanes and Jose Garcia followed with shots on goal as the Broncos continued applying pressure during the opening half.

Goalkeeper Kaden Gust helped preserve the advantage, making four first-half saves. The Broncos entered the break ahead 1-0 after producing six shots and placing three on target.

CSUSB equalized in the 69th minute before moving ahead just over two minutes later. The Coyotes added an insurance goal in the 85th minute to complete the second-half comeback.

Gust finished with six saves across 90 minutes, while the CPP defense added a team save. He stopped two more shots after halftime to keep the Broncos within reach as the Yotes increased their attacking pressure.

Arellanes, Garcia, Marvin Gamez, Nico Sanchez and Clement Badger each recorded two shots to lead a balanced CPP attack. Arellanes, Garcia and Badger placed attempts on goal alongside Gutierrez. Badger created the Broncos' final opportunity in the 89th minute, forcing a save.

Gutierrez, Aleksandar Somov, Gamez and Gust played all 90 minutes for CPP in the semifinal.

The CCAA Tournament championship match is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m., and will feature the Yotes against nationally top-ranked Cal State LA, who defeated Menlo College 4-1 in Friday's first semifinal.
