Broncos Celebrate Senior Day in Final Home Game of Regular Season

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team celebrated two seniors before their game against Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday afternoon, that being Jeanette Fine and Alexis Woodson. The two seniors were recognized on the court surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and teammates.

The Broncos battled back from an early deficit, but ultimately fell just short in a 64-61 decision against Cal Poly Humboldt in a Cal Poly Clash matchup.

The Broncos (23-3, 18-2 CCAA) faced a 27-16 first-quarter hole as Humboldt shot 66.7 percent from the field and knocked down six three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes. CPP remained competitive in the second quarter, trimming the margin to single digits before delivering its strongest stretch in the third.

Trailing 39-30 at halftime, CPP erupted for a 17-point third quarter, fueled by 12 points in the paint and seven second-chance points. Sydney Nelson led the charge with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 12 in the third period alone. Hunter Hudson added 9 points and a team-best 10 rebounds. Andrea Stajic contributed 18 points, highlighted by a clutch three-pointer with nine seconds remaining in the game that cut the deficit to just one.

Cal Poly Pomona briefly seized momentum midway through the third, using an 11-0 run to claim a two-point lead. The Broncos continued to pressure defensively and finished with 12 steals, converting 18 points off turnovers.

In the closing seconds, CPP had opportunities to tie or take the lead, but Humboldt converted just enough free throws to secure the win. Despite the setback, the Broncos showcased resilience and balanced production as they prepare for the final two games of the regular season.

Up Next
The Broncos will head on the road next weekend with games at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA. The team's magic number remains at one, meaning one more win will clinch both a CCAA title and a first-round bye in the upcoming CCAA Tournament.
