CCAA Champions, Broncos Capture First Title Since 2014

CARSON, Calif. – For the first time since 2014, Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball has claimed the CCAA regular season title. In a dominant 95-69 wire-to-wire win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday night, the Broncos clinched first place and a bye in the upcoming CCAA Tournament, which will be held on their home court in Kellogg Arena. The team improves to an impressive 24-3 overall and 19-2 in conference play, tying 2011, 2019, and 2025 for the most CCAA wins in a season under head coach Danelle Bishop.

"I'm absolutely thrilled for this incredible group of young women!" said Bishop after the win. "Their dedication and hard work have truly shone through. We've cultivated a vibrant culture, powered by a player-led team that is nothing short of inspiring. They've earned every bit of this success, and I couldn't be happier for them!"

The No. 10 ranked Broncos set the tone immediately, erupting for 31 first-quarter points while shooting just over 66 percent from the field in the opening 10 minutes. CPP never trailed, building a double-digit lead midway through the first and extending the margin to as many as 31 points in the third quarter.

Andrea Stajic led the scoring with a career-high 23 points on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting performance, knocking down three treys and adding four assists in a full 40-minute effort. Sydney Nelson poured in 22 points, going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line, while Hunter Hudson dominated the glass with a 16-point, 19-rebound double-double, including seven offensive boards that fueled second-chance opportunities. Hudson's 19 rebounds rank 11th most in a game in school history, as her 8.6 rebounds per game ranks sixth in the conference this season.

Cal Poly Pomona controlled the paint throughout the night, outscoring the Toros 46-32 inside and converting 21 second-chance points. The Broncos finished with a commanding 50-40 advantage on the boards. Brielle Minor added eight points and five assists, and Mydrea Moore and Alexis Woodson combined for 13 points and 15 rebounds to bolster the interior.

Leading 49-26 at halftime, CPP maintained its defensive intensity in the second half, holding CSUDH to under 35 percent shooting for the game. Despite a late fourth-quarter push by the Toros, the Broncos' lead was too much to overcome, resulting in the team's 25th conference title – the most in conference history.
